The country of Bangladesh is located in South Asia. During British governance in the India subcontinent, the Bengal Resistance played a pivotal role in the anti-colonial movement. Noted for their part in early overseas international trade, Bangladesh’s major exports were muslin and silk to the Middle East while spreading philosophy and art to Southeast Asia. Bengali is the official language of Bangladesh, and the country’s established religion is Islam. Non-muslims have freedom of religion. Bangladesh is formally known as the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and founded as a country on March 26, 1971. The national symbol is the endangered Bengal tiger.
