Bouvet Island was discovered on January 1, 1739 by Jean-Baptiste Charles Bouvet. The island was rediscovered in 1808 by a Britsh whaler captain James Lindsay and renamed it Lindsay Island, and was claimed for England. When it became a Norwegian dependency, it was renamed Bouvet Island in 1930. This island is located in the southern Atlantic Ocean near Antarctica, is uninhabited and the most remote island in the world.
