Egypt is officially known as the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a country spanning the northeast corner of Africa and the southwest corner of Asia. Later in 1952, a revolution took place and British occupation ended, the monarchy was overthrown and Egypt declared itself as a republic. The official religion is Islam, and Arabic is the official language. A large region of the Sahara desert lies west of the Nile River in Egypt.
