Known for its beaches, rivers, Budhist pagodas and busy cities is the South Asian country of Vietnam. Archaeological findings indicate Vietnam was inhabited over 2 million years ago during the Paleolithic age. By the 2nd century BC, China annexed Vietnam as a division of China. During the mid 19th century, Vietnam was colonized by the French. Vietnam declared independence from France and was founded as a country on September 2, 1945. Nine years later in 1954, Vietnam was divided into two states. In 1976, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam was formed and Vietnam was reunited.
